Not only is today my official ‘first day back!’ in Australia… it’s my seven year wedding anniversary. Seven years ago today my husband Luke and I ran to Sandringham Beach in Melbourne with bare feet, half a dozen witnesses, and more faith in each other than I have time in life to describe. We met 25 November 2002 and eloped 8 February 2003.
As you can imagine this went over huge with our families (once they actually found out…)
But all that seems far away now. My parents ended up coming to AUS a few years after the fact and we had a remix ceremony. And just to make a point, Luke and I not only arranged a second ‘wedding’… we had it in the second largest cathedral in Australia… St Patrick’s Cathedral in Melbourne. Oh and for the record it might not be the biggest in AUS but it’s the tallest… (cop that Sydney). In fact, it’s one of the tallest in the world.
Alas, that ceremony was really just to say ’so there’. Although I do still find it entertaining that we somehow convinced a Catholic priest to marry us. (hee hee…)
I am still somewhat jet lagged. Below are some photos I took of the puppies and I this morning around 5am… note how fricken LIGHT it is outside! The state of Queensland where we reside does not have daylight savings. Prior to living here, I had no idea that the government was able to take the role of God and define how time works. So nearly the entire rest of the country has it except us.
Regardless of my fairly groggy ‘what hemisphere am I in again?’ state, I feel insanely focussed. My script is open and ready for work this morning, I’ve got some new ideas for the writing group I co-host at RedBubble, and a few short stories are causing my fingertips to shake ever so sweetly.
Luke wants me to keep writing instead of bitching it out at another bullshit job. In the past I think I was nervous about letting him put that faith in me; I’m fiercely independent so it’s hard for me to let someone else support me…
But here I am now… heaps on the go… more driven than ever… So I guess if I don’t step to the plate and start seriously believing in what I can do now, I never will…

can I marry Luke? in a hetro kinda way of course !
ha!! you wouldn’t be the first guy to ask you know…
Happy anniversary. Ironically the beach scene in your wedding is the wedding scene in my novel now in New York awaiting the publishers response. Congratulations. Kindest, Michael
Thank you Michael! All the best with your book! Keep us posted on your progress
