standing for itself. six figure spin.

I had three interviews today blog family. After recent difficulties readjusting to another Aussie foray, I pulled my head in, put on my grown-up clothes (once again) and hit the streets.

Some of us may recall how I recently scored a job and had it ripped from under me slapping a somewhat murky layer of disenchantment to recent employment chasing activities. Granted the whole saving two lives thing¬†was a decent enough excuse for getting played out of a contract, as we’ve all seen – I had an ugly few days.

Not only did I have three interviews today, they were all Writer jobs. It was the first time people said things to me like, “Well, your portfolio pretty much stands for itself,” and “We have this that and this… but what we need is someone like you, we need a Writer.” (more…)

wait. did someone say new york city?

Because we all know how I feel about New York City…

Ok, so here’s the thing (few things…) After a ripper breakdown on Tuesday I wrote my life a letter that sounded something like this.

We all agreed that readers are a much more effective audience to consult than publishers when it comes to our work. And then we shared stories about pieces being knocked back multiple times before finally getting accepted. (more…)

It’s officially on my most perfect collection of gorgeousness… next week work time kicks off! This means black coffee every morning, clothing with creases, and word slinging in a whole new way. My job will involve mostly reading complicated things that genius-like people write about national transport happenings in Australia and breaking it down into language for the people.

Yup… I take word nerd to a whole new level… (more…)

thinking in stories and verse…

Namaste blog family

We have officially arrived at the final day of this particular US voyage. In a few hours I’ll be on an airplane zooming over the pacific to a far away island.

In the past twelve months I’ve somehow managed to spend a mere eight weeks in an office focussing on tasks that have nothing to do with who I am or what I believe I should be doing. It is quite possible I will have to paint myself pretend when I get back to Oz to hustle up some dough to fund the next trip back to NYC… we’ll see…

On the up side, I’m finding that the escape from false existence I’ve been attempting to hustle over the past thirteen months-ish has actually altered my thought processes. (more…)
