Today is the four year anniversary of FollowMeToNYC. Four years ago today, I was sitting in an Australian farmhouse in Oxley, Queensland getting ready to quit my job and figure out how to relocate my life 10,000 miles from where I was – drinking coffee out an I (heart) NYC mug.
Today I am sitting on the balcony of a midtown Manhattan luxury high-rise, with puppies at my feet. Surviving as a professional Writer, living a life I hardly saw coming when I scratched my head and said, “Hmmm… I think I’ll go back to the city.”
I lost a lot of things on the way here. I can’t really call it “sacrifice”, because that sounds like I had some choice in effort towards a particular loss. ‘I sacrifice this… so I can have this…’ I never sacrificed anything. Chunks of life fell off of me along the way. I’m finally happy where I am.
That’s a pretty decent accomplishment in itself, four years stuck to it seems like nothing in the big picture.
Reflecting on what I’ve achieved since kicking of this site, I’m proud of the work I’ve created. Three poetry books and a short film banged out, published pieces, a Pushcart nomination, and more pieces of writing than I can get my head around.
I guess I’m just feeling all sentimental with the recent full moon and just turning 35… now my blog anniversary.
Love and blessings to each of you checking in. The hands-down most remarkable element of what I have experienced in Internet world is being able to directly connect with cult affiliates interested in word spinning and love spreading.
I promise novel will be published by anniversary five… #justsayin
